As we reach the grand old age of 125 days, Eastern Gaels are settling into life in the wonderful surrounds of Mornington, bordered by the beautiful Boyne and with the distinction of being Meath’s most easterly Gaelic club.
You may have noticed that we have been working hard on Tower Road. A lick of paint, cutting the grass, tidying the verges and generally preparing a welcoming home for the many members that we hope will come through the gates of our exciting and vibrant new club now and in the coming years.
Those members will be welcomed with the greatest Céad Míle Fáilte ever. Eastern Gaels will be a member-led club. Everything will revolve around the members. The beauty of a new club is that the members get to shape its destiny.
The members get to decide the direction of travel. Get to decide what happens in their club … get to shape the club from the outset.
The members will help to build the values that the club will thrive on and to create an environment of inclusion, fun and equality from the very beginning. That is the aspiration of Eastern Gaels.
Already our Ladies have begun playing challenge matches and will play competitively for the first time later this month – in what will be a truly historic occasion for the club.
Our men’s team will compete in the Junior B Championship next month. It has been a bumpier road to get out playing but we are nearly there now. Perseverance, patience and getting young men and women playing again. That has always been our aim.
Our wonderful Little Stars GAA Academy continues to thrive on Sunday mornings. It is uplifting to see the progress in football and hurling/camogie skills in just a few short weeks. Even more uplifting is the sense of fun and belonging that is already evident in these young Eastern Gaels.
We are engaging with the local schools now too to grow our membership. And we will be absolutely delighted to share our facilities with all of the community in East Meath. What’s ours is yours.
Everybody in the community is aware of the desperate need for more sporting outlets and facilities for our children ….. and for their parents and grandparents too!
We have been lucky with the weather in recent weeks and there is really nothing more pleasant than spending an hour on Sunday morning on the banks of the historic Boyne. Some parents like to walk the trail around our grounds and get in those important steps in the most beautiful surrounds.
Eastern Gaels are happy but ambitious. We are delighted that the club is becoming a big part of our community in East Meath in such a short space of time. We would like you to help grow this young, vibrant and ambitious club. To come on the journey with us.
You know where to find us – drop in! You’ll be more than welcome!
Make Eastern Gaels the club you want it to be.
