Eastern Gaels Ladies made more history tonight in Walterstown with a first ever competitive outing in the Masita Cup. The Ladies hit the ground running with a very strong first half which ensured that the 3 points would come back to East Meath.
From the start the Gaels were assured in possession and worked the ball through the hands very well. Kate and Emma O’Sullivan worked tirelessly in the middle and provided a steady supply of ball to Cliodhna Cairns, Aoibhinn Butler and Megan Murray up front who took some excellent scores.
In defence we very assured and snuffed out a lot of home attacks in the opening half with Alison Boyle, Isabel McDonnell-Murphy and Ruby Egan Taylor prominent.
A young Walterstown team came back strongly in the second half with some fine team play resulting in a number of good scores. But the Gaels Ladies were also working the scoreboard at the other end through Taillte and Caoimhe Cairns and Annaleigh McGuinness.
Some tight defending by Kate Ball and Grace Toolan ensured that the Eastern Gales Ladies closed out the win to leave a very happy group heading back East.
Thanks to Walterstown for an entertaining game at their hugely impressive grounds. Next up it’s Slane in Round 2.
Congrats this evening Ladies on a job well done … and more history made!
